3 of our services that are easily overlooked

You know you need to look after your kitchen to keep it running safely, efficiently, hygienically and in line with current compliance guidelines.

But with so much to consider, it’s easy to forget about the elements that run in the background!

If you run a hospitality business or other commercial food handling operation, then as well as your standard kitchen systems and appliances, you also need to make sure the below are maintained on a regular basis:

  1. Grease extraction ventilation systems

Your ventilation system plays a crucial role in removing airborne heat, steam, smoke and grease from your kitchen and/or food preparation area.

Cooking processes, especially frying and grilling, release grease particles into the air, which can accumulate on surfaces and in ductwork if not properly removed, not to mention reduce the overall air quality in your workspace. Grease filters within the system trap these particles to prevent buildup – but they need to be cleaned out regularly, otherwise they will stop working properly and will begin to present a serious fire hazard.

It's a challenging job – but our experts will leave your ventilation systems clean, clear, and performing at their optimal.

TWO Services is a member of the Vent Hygiene Register (previously the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite Scheme), so you can rest assured our team have the specialist training required to clean your vents, filters, canopies and ductwork to the highest possible standards.

  1. Fire suppression systems

We hope a fire never breaks out in your kitchen – but if it does, your fire suppression system will work quickly to detect and extinguish it before it causes lasting damage.

These systems are essential for protecting both property and people in environments where high heat, open flames, and flammable cooking oils are regularly used – and they are specifically designed to address the unique fire risks that are present in commercial kitchens. When triggered, they will spray a low pH liquid suppressant from nozzles onto cooking surfaces, filters and the exhaust duct system. This liquid will douse flames and cool hot surfaces while generating a tough vapour securing blanket that helps prevent any re-flash.

As well as having the capabilities to design and install world-leading ANSUL® kitchen fire suppression systems, the team here at TWO can also advise you on how to best look after this important equipment. Find out more here.

  1. PAT testing requirements

Chances are you rely on several portable electronic devices within your kitchen. All these items need to be checked, tested and approved for use by a at least once every 12-24 months.

PAT testing helps to identify electrical faults and damaged parts that could cause electric shocks, fires, or other accidents. By regularly testing portable your appliances, you’ll be able to find and rectify any potential hazards before they cause harm. You are legally responsible for making sure your business’s electrical equipment is safe to use, and it’s likely that your insurance provider will require proof of regular PAT tests in the event of a claim – so make sure you book this work in ASAP! Visual inspections should be carried out more frequently by staff to stay on top of any issues, so remind your workers to remain vigilant and report any broken appliances back to management.

Contact TWO Services for more information on any of the maintenance works mentioned here and to book a visit from our cleaners or engineers. We cover most of the UK and provide preventative and reactive services.
